I'm always looking for fun paper-based objects (among other things) on Etsy, and I came across PaperAffection's wonderful paper ornaments! Though the holiday season is over, these would look great in any home at any time of the year! I especially like the recycled paper ones...

While looking for interesting things to post about, I stumbled upon the work of collage artist Peter Clark... I absolutely LOVE his work!!!

In his own words:

"Peter uses a comprehensive collection of found paper as his palette which are coloured, patterned or textured by their printed, written or worn surfaces, with this media he 'paints' his collages. He shades with density of print and creates substance and movement with lines plucked from old maps or manuscripts. His pieces use mark-making in an innovative and humorous way to create a collection of beasts and clothing which exude character and wit."

New Year, new resolutions

Happy new year!!!

With a new year comes new goals, and mine this year is to post here more regularly. A LOT more regularly.

Starting next week, my goal is to post daily about anything paper or design related, with certain days dedicated to the following "columns":
-Etsy-Tuesdays: my favorite finds on Etsy
-Blog-Thursdays: my favourite finds from other blogs

The last post on Fridays will be a round-up of the posts from the week.

Anthropologie window displays

I walked by the local Anthropologie store the other day and could not believe their window displays! Big flowers and sculptures all made from old books! Words cannot describe them, so here are pictures (sorry for the bad quality, I only had my phone with me).

Joan Grubin

Joan Grubin's work is a combination of painting, sculpture, and installation. I love her manipulation of color! She says:

"My work is a hybrid combining painting, sculpture,
and installation. I work with color and light, using
acrylic on paper, and the phenomena of reflected
color on the wall. Each piece is an interaction between
painted paper elements pinned out from the wall, and
the color cast on the wall by unseen fluorescent paint
on the back of the paper, which implicates the wall and
the surrounding space in the piece.

These floating paintings exist in the gap between
painting and object. Subtle manipulation of color
relationships between the frontal plane and the colored
glow on the wall causes an optical disorientation, which
raises questions about the discrepancy between what
we see and what we know. Part of the meaning of
my current work resides in the tension created between
maximum optical energy and minimal physical materiality."

Hunt Rettig

Hunt Rettig makes sculptures out of film and paper. Here are some samples of his work:

Marion Bataille is an amazing book artist. This video is actually just a mock up, the real thing is due to be published in October 2008.

Organic Abstracts

Paul Jackson has been making these organic sculptures since the 1990s, and still continues to make them today. He has a collection of over 250 pieces. His sculptures are inspired by bacteria, shells, and seed heads. The paper is colored with charcoal and dry pastel and then sealed to create a matte surface.
